Highlights

The Match

gauzy-shibaev.jpg
Simon Gauzy  2 – 4  Alexander Shibaev (7-11, 9-11, 11-8, 10-12, 11-8, 9-11)

Simon Gauzy, the local crowd hero, had a thrilling battle against Shibaev, the tough Russian player. Outstanding rallies and a controversial ending.

The surprise

melek-dodean
Hu Melek  0 – 3   Daniela Monteiro-Dodean (11-13, 8-11, 9-11)

The best ranked female player in the tournament had a big upset in her first match of the groups stage. Daniela Monteiro-Dodean beat the odds with an easy 0-3.

The comeback

gauzy-ovtcharov
Dimitrij Ovtcharov   3 – 2   Simon Gauzy (7-11, 5-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-6)

Dimitrij Ovtcharov was 2 sets down with 7-9 in the score for Simon Gauzy. It was only the best European player who could have overcome such a situation.

The tightest

melek-pota
Hu Melek   3 – 2   Georgina Pota (18-16, 13-15, 11-9, 11-13, 12-10)

With both the Turkish and the Hungarian players having the chance to win every set, this match was by far the one where the smallest details gave the victory to the most focused player.

The badly beaten

polina-balazoba
Polina Mikhailova  0 – 3  Barbora Balazova (4-11, 2-11, 9-11)

It was, definitely, not a good tournament for Polina Mikhailova. With 3 defeats in the group stage and a single set scored, she will for sure try to forget this competition as soon as possible.
